From the very beginning of creating our company, we wanted to offer clients the very best musical equipment, which was steeped in tradition but also used state-of-the-art materials. We also wanted to be affiliated with a world-leading organisation with a reputation for being committed to developing drumming and drums not only for musicians but for families, communities and corporations.
Remo is the largest drum company in the world. Remo has led the way for many decades in almost all areas of percussion – not only producing the world’s most popular drum skins but also developing a mammoth range of ethnic drums for us to enjoy.
I would confidently suggest that over three-quarters of the hit singles, albums and music concerts that you have ever heard in your life, were propelled by rhythms played on a Remo product!
The first thing that happens to any group walking into one of our surprise drum events is that they are shocked to hear drumming coming from their main plenary. The next surprise is seeing stunning, vibrant and multi-coloured drums on every seat. This visual impact is very important.
We have always believed that having a professional instrument to play is a vital component in engaging clients to commit to, and continue wanting to progress through, a team building event. Once people have been through the process of learning and creating music with their particular drums, they can get very attached to them – sometimes not even letting them go during the coffee break!
We also purposely use Remo drums from regions all over the world for a few important reasons:
- they promote an important global message
- clients may recognise drums from their own culture
- they provide more varied tone ranges to work with.
We can give some very specific instances where the use of Remo drums has saved the day for us on a corporate drumming event.
Quite often, we are asked to prepare the drums outside the building and then, on cue, bring them in, en masse, to surprise the conference. Quite often conferences don’t go to time! This means that the instruments are in constantly-changing weather and temperature environments. Because of the materials used, Remo drums are never affected or become detuned before they get to the clients.
A torrential rain storm once surprised us on an outside event, and the drums were almost floating away. Because the drums were waterproof, the activity was moved inside and carried on. Most traditional drums would never have survived.
There are additional reasons why we use Remo drums in a corporate drumming event. Remo drums tend to be lighter than other drums for clients to move. They are almost unbreakable, and they come in every shape and size for comfort. Finally, two major resources that we have benefitted from are the facilitator training given by Remo and the ongoing research and development studies that it produces.
Remo supports the most comprehensive drum facilitation training courses on Earth. These are programmes where you learn from the best of the best how to hone your skills as a rhythm facilitator. We feel that this is a fantastic investment as the quality of our drumming workshop leaders can make or break an event. Many of our facilitators have taken part in this training, in the UK and in the USA.
We also have access to the ever-building scientific research that Remo produces. This includes reports on the effects that group drumming has on a range of medical conditions, and its benefits as stress relief. We will, in future blogs, take a look at this valuable work.
